7 Ways to Fight Inconsistency and Get Set for Success

Time to Hit the Target, no More InconsistencyDo you find it difficult to stick to your goals? Do you set New Year’s Resolutions each year, only to fail before the end of the month? Do you get bored with your commitments and lose motivation fast?

I hear ya!

For years I couldn’t stick with anything. I would jump from idea to idea, join the gym, leave it. Start to write, stop. I just couldn’t seem to follow through. I used to beat myself up over it, feel inadequate and generally crap about myself. But that’s all changed and the first thing I realised was that I needed to have a single focus.

One Thing at a Time

We all know a true recipe for disaster is to take on too much. If you try to change too many things at once you won’t succeed, this is the main reason New Year’s Resolutions don’t work. You try to lose weight, get fit, stop smoking and be nicer to people all on the same day. Yikes, come the 3rd of January and you shout at your kids not to touch your chocolate and move out of the way of the TV! Focus on changing one thing at a time, you are much more likely to succeed.

Clear the Clutter

I never feel I do it justice when I describe the benefits of decluttering. Such a simple task but so powerful. Physical clutter has a mental effect on your body. It holds you back, it distracts your focus and prevents you from getting things done. I am a huge advocate of clearing the clutter firstly because of the personal benefits I have felt but also because of the many people who have come back to me after reading my book or doing my Get Set for Success course telling me how much it has impacted their lives! Spend some time decluttering your environment and you will find you can think more clearly and be able to focus on the things that need your attention. When the clutter is gone the next step is to organise what is left.

Get Organised

Getting Organised helped me to focus on my priorities. It allowed me to free up time that I would have spent looking for things or reacting to work rather than being in control. I never thought I would be able to describe myself as organised. But once I learned how to get organised, the benefits were so great I had to keep it up.

Exciting Goals

The benefits of reaching your goals must be clear to you and motivating enough to stay committed to their attainment. If your goal is not clear, or not specific you will have leeway to stray from it. Get crystal clear about the goals you have and why you want to achieve them. List the benefits and visualise yourself successful.

Get Some Apps

If you want to nurture the habit of gratitude, get a Gratitude App, if you want to start running, get a Running App, If you want to start budgeting get a Budgeting App. There are many great apps available to you for free to help you to create positive habits.

Find a Buddy

Find someone who is sharing your journey towards more success and happiness. A buddy will help make the road less bumpy. If you promise a stranger or an acquaintance you will do something you are much more likely to do it than when you promise yourself or promise a loved one. Strange but true! So get someone who is on the same path as you, someone who can encourage you and understand what you are trying to achieve, and your success will come more quickly that you may have thought possible.
